If you suspect a scam, follow these tips. Student Employment Services aims to keep job and course searches safe by proactively removing predatory content and providing tools to protect personal information and financial wellbeing.
Several global teams ensure job and course authenticity on our platform, focusing on user security and privacy. To recognize and avoid fraud, follow these guidelines.
Job and course Search Dos: verify company email addresses, watch for misspelled or ‘spoofed’ company names, match job or course offers to your applications, be cautious of too-good-to-be-true offers, insist on in-person or video interviews, and report suspicious communications.
Job and course Search Don’ts: never send payment to potential employers or institution, agree to financial transactions, open multiple accounts, or accept money upfront for unperformed work.
Cheque Scams, Money Laundering Scams, Reshipping Scams, Fee Scams, Identity scams and myGov Account Theft. Be cautious of requests for sensitive information and report identity fraud to the Scams and Identity Theft Helpdesk.
Exercise caution with job or course listings that appear excessively appealing, for instance, offering higher paid rate for lower paid jobs or lower fees for a course. Remember, opportunities that seem too good to be true likely are.
Be sceptical of job or course Ads that are ambiguous or lack clear details about the position, particularly if they focus solely on benefits and rewards.
Also, be cautious of job or course advertisements that seek sensitive personal information such as bank details, tax file number, or ID copies early in the application process. Legitimate employers will never demand payments for interviews, job applications, or job offers.
Lastly, be wary of emails from generic domains like @gmail or @outlook, as authentic employers usually use their company’s email domain, for example, @studentemploymentservices.com.au.
